Rape Convictions in Wales

12 Sep

From the BBC, rape convictions in Wales reach a 4 year high.  Before we all get too excited, though, the conviction rate reported here is still only 59.3% and 1, 586 cases remained unsolved in Wales.

Also from the BBC, Welsh Police forces report rise in rape victims coming forward for help since the establishment of Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCS).

For a big student town like Cardiff, it’s also important to be aware that an NUS study of 2,000 female students found that 1 in 7 had experienced serious sexual and physical assault.  Maybe it would be worth CFN writing to all the local universities to ask them what they’re doing in response to this information.
