Probation Officers join warnings over cuts

23 Sep

Sex offenders and abusive partners will be able to prey on more victims because of the government’s planned spending cuts, probation leaders warn

Napo, the probation officers union, said it feared cuts of at least 25 per cent will mean fewer staff and programmes designed to stop reoffending will be cut or withdrawn.

It said, in particular, many areas will have to cut back on services for sex offenders and those involved in domestic violence.

It warned that “any curtailment of sex offender programmes will clearly affect the protection of women and children”.
