IWD Week – Cardiff Women’s Association

International Women’s Day is upon as, and there’s lots of events planned throughout the week.

Let’s start with “Cardiff Women’s Association“, brought to you by Cardiff University Students’ Union.

They will be running Women’s Week from the 5th-10th . This week will be all about engaging with our female students, raising women’s issues and celebrating women on the campus.

Prize Draw

As part of a joint Fair-trade and women’s week. Buy a ticket all week and get the chance to win some donated fair-trade clothes and accessories.£2.50, some profits going to charity.

Monday 5th

Holistic specialist – 1pm- 4pm Aneurin Bevan. Coming in to give a workshop and tasters of several therapies and treatments, from massages to readings. Come along and try it out. She will by in town for the remainder of the week offering reduced price full treatments.

Cardiff Women’s Association AGM – 5pm – 6.30pm Aneurin Bevan. Come and nominate or vote for next years committee, positions of social sec, media sec, vice-pres. Also vote on where the money raised by the Prize Draw will go (see below), and the delegates we will send to NUS National Women’s Conference. Democracy is fun.

Tuesday 6th

Grill a feminist – Come and ask all the questions you never could before, 1.30pm – 3pm, Aneurin Bevan.

Wednesday 7th

So You Think you Can Dance?

SLASH, Cardiff award winning hip-hop group, is offering a reduced price taster session for all CWA members. 4.15pm, Vitality.

Breakdance will also be opening their doors, running a beginner session for any female students wanting to try something new! 2pm, Solus.

Chronic Babe Workshop – Find out how to work your chronic condition so you’re a woman first and a patient second. 3rd floor IT room, 2pm – 3.30pm.

How to Write a Woman – Join the Creative Writing Society and learn how to write a compelling, 3D female character. Women tend to identify and empathize with a Main Character of either sex, whilst often men may tend to struggle to do so with female characters. Because of this, or maybe causing this, there are a lack of compelling female characters in the world of fiction when compared to the numbers of male characters. So come and find out how to ‘write the wrong’. 7pm 4th Floor SU

Thursday 8th

Check out your CWA – a stall in the reception area all to raise the CWA and Women’s Officer profile. Looks of fun information and free things.
HR Workshop 1.30pm Aneurin Bevan room.

Grill your Women’s Officer – Find out what she’s been doing all year, ask her what there is left to do and hold her accountable. 3pm – Aneurin Bevan Room.

Friday 9th

Prize Draw – winners are alerted by email.

Meditation session – led by a professional, to help you get relaxed for a weekend of fun. 1pm – 3pm, 3rd floor IT room, absolutely free!

Open dance class with Expression Dance Soc taught by your Women’s Officer. Come along and express yourself! 6pm – 8pm Aneurin Bevan Room

Saturday 10th

Weekly Coffee Morning – Vulcan Coffee Lounge, 11am. Joint with the LGBT+ so a large crowd. Come along and have a late breakfast, early lunch or just some cake and coffee.
