The Welsh government is currently consulting on proposals to implement new laws that effectively fight against violence against women (including domestic violence and sexual violence). Welsh Women’s Aid have very painstakingly drafted an 82-page-long response to this consultation and they’ve invited you to respond too!
But phew! You need not sweat over 1s and 0s for days on end because WWA have very kindly drafted a template response for you. So if you have anything at all that you want to say to the government about violence against women and their proposals to end it – whether it’s positive or critical – please say it now. However, saying this, I should mention that WWA would be very grateful if you could take a look at their keys points document and consider reinforcing these points in your response.
So what is a consultation?
A consultation is effectively an invitation from the government for you to say what you want to say about a particular subject. This consultation aims to focus on three issues:
1. improving leadership and accountability
2. improving education and awareness; and
3. strengthening services in Wales
You don’t have to be an expert on the matter to respond to these proposals… you just need to care about the implications of them.
One last thing: be quick because the deadline is this Friday 22nd February.
